August 2004

This is ICE a 2 year old Breeding Stock Paint gelding. With approximately 60 pounds of Sand in his bowel that he has ingested. He is on the way to the vet and will most likely need major surgery. If he does not have this surgery there is a chance we will loose him due to a rupture of his bowels.

Please consider sponsoring Ice to help us achieve the goal of collecting enough money to pay for his much needed Surgery.

Well I have wonderful news to update on Ice. He is still alive and well and we are still on a day to day process with him but so far no surgery has been required. He did loose about 100 pounds during his long colic episode (which lasted 2-3 weeks) but we have gotten him thru that for now. We worked VERY closely with our Wonderful veterinary and made the 45 minute one way trip out to the Equine Hospital every other day to have Ice re-checked and re-oiled. This was a loooonnnggg process over about 2-3 weeks but it has all paid off in the end as Ice is still here with us and coming along well. He is putting the weight he lost back on quite well and per our Veterinary we have now started him on a Psyllium regimen. He will need to be the Psyllium and continue for 30-60 days depending on how long it takes to get the rest of the sand out of his belly. The oiling and medications did not flush all the sand out of Ice’s belly but did break up the blockage and allowed things to start flowing normally again. So now the BIG project is to keep him from eating MORE sand which has obviously become a habit to him and continue to flush the sand that is still in his bowels out.

Ice is continuing to do well and on the road to recovery. He has been started on a new supplement program in hope to balance out his diet and encourage him to stop eating sand. We now have his entire stall covered deeply in bedding so while he is in his stall he can not eat sand. He is being turned out daily under close supervision as when he gets bored he will revert back to eating sand. We are still hoping to get Psyllium donations in order to continue his treatment.

July 2005

Ice is being placed into a permanent foster home as he will have continued medical and supplement care.
