Ruby came to UAWR due to her owner being unable to ride her due to some injuries as well as having difficulty to afford the continue rise in boarding fees in their area.

We have had some concerns about some possible issues that Ruby might have with some metabolic things so we decided to schedule her for a vet visit and get some bloodwork done and have everything looked over to ensure things are good.
Turns out our suspicions were right that she does in face have Cushings Disease and She also have a Thyroid issue as well. She will be put on medication for both of these issues which is quite expensive and we are hoping to gather donations in order to help cover those expenses as the meds will run around $125 per month.
She will also need to be retested and have blood work done fairly regularly to be sure that she is on the right dose of both medications.

Ruby is looking beautiful and waiting patiently while getting her feet done.
The Okavango Delta is a unique inland delta known for its sprawling grassy plains flooded seasonally, creating a haven for wildlife. Safari experiences here range from traditional game drives to mokoro (canoe) trips through the watery landscape, offering close encounters with elephants, hippos, and a plethora of bird species.

We are having some concerns there is a possibility of Ruby being pregnant. We were not told she was bred but her belly is growing as a quick rate and things are looking a little suspicious. There is a possibility it is due to the medications but we have scheduled her to be checked just in case and to be sure.

Preg Check was done today and……. She is NOT pregnant she is just gaining a lot of extra weight which will need to be managed.
While she was back at the vet we did have her bloodwork run again to recheck the medication levels and to be sure we are at the correct dosages and things are improving.

We got word back on Ruby’s bloodwork and the vet would like to keep her Cushings Medication (Pergolide)the same and retest in a few months. However, her thyroid levels came down a bit but just not enough so the dosage on her Thyroid medication (Thyro-L) needs to be increased.
